Microarrays have revolutionized molecular biology. The numbers of applications for microarrays are growing as quickly as their probe density. Paradoxically, microarray data still contains a large number of variables and a small number of replicates creating unique data analysis sets. The first and most important goal is to design microarray experiments that yield statistically defensible results. This generation of such useful data requires effective communication between those designing and running the experiments, with those analyzing the data, to those software and database developers who facilitate the data handling. CHI's Seventh Annual New Applications for Microarray Data Analysis: Integrating Genetics with “Omics” continues the tradition of providing perspectives from each specialty, with an emphasis on how they can be integrated into a cohesive, comprehensive team to better decipher biologic pathways and determine the total “omic” picture.
