SUNDAY, APRIL 20

1:30 Short Course Registration

2:00-5:00 Introducing PREXCEL-Q: An Excel-based Software Program for the Rapid Design of Fail-Safe, Dynamically-Sound One- and Two Step qPCR Reactions
Jack M. Gallup, Assistant Scientist III, Department of Veterinary Pathology, Iowa State University

BRIEF COURSE DESCRIPTION:
Mr. Jack Gallup will describe the theory behind PREXCEL-Q and then guide participants through the use of the program for one-step qPCR, two-step qPCR and LCM-qPCR set-ups using real-life examples in each case. Attendees will learn the automatic command functions of the program which accomplish thousands of crucial qPCR set-up calculations in minutes instead of hours or days, etc.

WHO SHOULD ATTEND?
Any researcher who is responsible for setting up qPCR reactions in the lab who knows first-hand the tedium and frustration often associated with the responsible execution of qPCR set-ups. Those who wish to save time while designing reliable qPCR reactions.

WHY ATTEND?
Even though PREXCEL-Q is new, it is already proving to be an invaluable tool to qPCR users across the globe. It automatically calculates all sample dilutions, standard dilutions, master mix set-ups for five major company’s most popular Master Mixes (for Test Plate [‘validation plate’], final qPCR plates and NRC [or NAC] plates), DNase and RNase reaction formulations, RT reaction assemblies, etc. It is a truly helpful and welcome implement, and can be licensed for free use by all academic institutions.

Hosted by

2:00-5:00 Getting the Most out of Your qPCR Experiments
Agenda:

  • Review of critical assay design parameters

  • Optimization of assay performance

  • Troubleshooting:

    • Contamination

    • Primer Dimers

    • Efficiency/Reproducibility/Sensitivity

  • Analysis Considerations:

    • Gene Expression

This will be an interactive workshop - attendees are encouraged to bring data files and problem examples with them.

Who Should Attend & Why
All levels of qPCR users are encouraged to participate, you will learn good laboratory practices to help you optimize your qPCR assays and effectively troubleshoot your results.

* Separate Registration Required
