Description:

This course will provide a general introduction to psychiatry followed by a specific focus on the major psychiatric disorders. The presentation, etiology, epidemiology, investigations and treatments of patients with bipolar disorder, depression, schizophrenia and anxiety disorders will be described and explained. Pharmacological and non-pharmacological treatments will be reviewed and the issues associated with clinical trials will be discussed. The course will also address the complexities of psychiatric medicine in an ever-increasing elderly population. Video presentations, case studies and practical sessions with rating scales will be inherent throughout this two-day course.
