Roche Buys 454 From CuraGen

March 29, 2007--Roche is paying about $155 million for 454 Life Sciences Corporation, a majority-owned subsidiary of CuraGen Corporation.  Roche reportedly plans to maintain the 454 Life Sciences facility in Branford, Connecticut with its 167 employees as a fully integrated part of the Roche Diagnostics organization. CuraGen established 454 Life Sciences in 2000 to develop and commercialize next-generation sequencing technology. In May 2005, 454 Life Sciences and Roche signed a research and marketing collaboration making Roche Diagnostics the exclusive worldwide distributor of 454’s Genome Sequencer systems and associated reagents to all markets with the exception of regulated diagnostics. By acquiring 454, Roche Diagnostics has access to future sequencing products and can apply them in regulated diagnostic applications.
